As a newcomer to conventions, I am learning that there are niche subspaces for those who aren’t into mainstream or active fandoms. These subspaces get even more niche when you add the intersectionality of being a black woman. At Dream Con, I was happy to find ample activations, panels, and events that aligned with my specific so-called dormant interests!
Animation, Comics, and Manga Collide at Dream Con 2026
More than 45,000 attendees joined in celebration of nerd-culture at Dream Con 2026, hosted at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. With a stacked programming that encompassed comics, animation, cosplay, gaming, and even mental health, finding a niche to network and learn from was incredibly easy.
Gigi Murakami: Queen of Horror Manga
Award-winning Manga Artist & Illustrator, Gigi Murakami, was among the select official talent to this year’s Dream Con. Notable for horror titles such as Resenter, published digitally by Viz Manga, Murakami discussed her love of all things scary, getting the elderly into horror, and reflecting on her accolades and projects.

Dream Con is known for cosplay, and while we could have photographed hundreds of amazing outfits, with the sheer amount of programming and activities, we captured what we could.

Momocon 2026 exceeded attendee expectations and has grown to include so many different areas of nerd, geek, and pop culture.
Fan Expo Philadelphia 2026
Fan Expo has been bridging the gap between comic fans and their favorite creators for 26 years, and the passion from fan bases was felt immediately arrive in at the Philadelphia Convention Center. The energy was high and with perfect weather—the entire city was filled with excited fans ready for the day ahead.
