M(A.I.)l Call from Writer Zack Kaplan

I received a package from Zack Kaplan to promote his new five issue comic series for Dark Horse, The Smart Division. When an artificial intelligence program appears responsible for assisting in a murder, a chaotic Gen-Z savant and a veteran FBI agent must hunt down the killer by starting the FBI’s first AI crimes unit.

The package opens with a black print card detailing how A.I. has intruded into our lives, and it poses the question: “What is going to happen when people start using A.I. for crimes?” It also came with a letter from Zack and artist John J. Pearson, asking us to “test their new A.I. crime app” for the August 5th comic release date. The letter ends with a thank you and welcoming us to The Smart Division.

There were 2 variant cover art prints of issue #1, and also a clever Monopoly card! “Community Chest. Plan The Perfect Crime With A.I.”

And then finally, it came with an ashcan preview of the first issue, signed by Zack himself. Reading the preview has me very excited for what’s to come. I’m genuinely intrigued by the murder mystery and I’m curious to know how the A.I. was involved in the crime.
