Comic Creators at the 2025 Bedrock City Con
This year more than 20 comic creators filled Artist Alley at the 2025 Bedrock City Con. Creators ranged from small press writers/artists to illustrators and cover artists working on major titles with DC Comics and Marvel.
With the impressive count of talent, it was not possible to connect with every creator. However, here are a few we were able to connect with.
“I love the reception of Absolute Flash and being part of it has been great. What’s exciting about the Absolute Universe is the revamped or reimagined characters. The openness that this world has, I don’t have to beholden to what’s come before so it’s all fresh ideas.”
Nick Robles, Comic Book Artist and Illustrator for the Absolute Flash series from DC Comics
“When Carmilla: The First Vampire won the Bram Stoker Award—that was just an honor, and Volume 2 was a very cool journey. But I am looking forward to readers having the trilogy of Carmilla with Volume 3 [out October 2025]. We have the best fans who have been super supportive.
My art style is has evolved and that’s part of the adventure. Sometimes it’s a children’s book, a horror story, or even Maleficent or The Wizard of Oz. I enjoy switching gears and learning—it’s like a light bulb.”
Soo Lee, Cartoonist, Illustrator, and Writer whose work has been published by DC Comics, Dark Horse Comics, and more.
“When it comes to working on the Teen Titans, I always envision and draw the characters as if they were friends or if I could just hang out with them. I feel like that kind of understanding is important especially when it comes to what they’re going to be wearing or doing. I love these characters and I feel like fans like seeing a new side to the characters. For me it‘s just great that everyone enjoys Teen Titans at much as I do.”
Gabriel Picolo, Comic Artist and Illustrator for the NYT best selling Teen Titans graphic novel series from DC Comics.
“I do my thinking with a brush. I feel natural with a brush in my hand and I feel like I can make what comes to mind in 10 seconds. I learned digital art and love digital art I see from so many great artists. But when I have made digital art publishers ask for my more traditional style, and traditional illustrating is always what I’ve loved.”
JG Jones, Eisner-Nominated Comic Book Artist for DC Comics, Marvel, Image, and more
“I like to describe Christopher Chaos as Teen Titans meets Universal Monsters. The series started in 2022 and we’re on the third volume so this journey has been really great.
The character designs are all by one of my favorite artists, Nick Robles, and getting to work on this series has been the biggest growth I’ve had as an artist.”
Isaac Goodhart, Comic Book Artist for the Critically Acclaimed Series Christopher Chaos from Dark Horse Comics.
“I started as an animator and wrote/illustrated Plume myself to build a portfolio. But this happy accident started as a [western fantasy] webcomic that is now a collected edition people still enjoy years after it has been finished. I’ve since created For Goodness’ Sake and The House of Lowther, a series about cryptids. I’m basically living my Don Bluth dreams of drawing whatever I want.”
K. Lynn Smith, writer and illustrator of Plume, For Goodness’ Sake, and The House of Lowther
“I went to college for illustrations and my first big comic gig was working for Marvel after they found X-Men fashion illustrations I had created. After college I leaned into what I like to do and when I illustrate characters there is an innate confidence that gets communicated. I want expressions to feel like a little wink and a nudge—like the character and viewer are in on a joke.”
Kevin Wada, Watercolor Cover Artist for Marvel, DC Comics, Image, BOOM! Studios, and more
“I am releasing the graphic novel Drawing Attention next year and it’s my first story for the American market. I put a lot of myself into the book—it’s all about the love of comics and talks about being an outcast in school. I’ve grown to love the characters in the story and I hope the world will love the project.”
Marguerite Sauvage, Eisner, GLAAD, Russ Manning nominated Comic Book Illustrator and Writer.
“I went to college for traditional art and learned how to oil paint. I think that style helped broaden my horizons and has allowed me to bring different techniques into comics. Black and white art is impressive, but painting still has its demand for major properties.”
Chris Doray, Comic Book and Card Game Artist
“I got into drawing in Engineering school and after I graduated I wanted to combine engineering with art. I’m mainly influenced by manga, and my comic Wrench Tale is about a boy who finds a mysterious floating mountain after he escapes the confines of a classroom of his engineering school.”
Rasheed Oduro, Comic Book Illustrator and Writer
“My most in-depth work is my graphic novel called West, Not South. It’s an anthropomorphic crime comedy about a city mouse who moves to the west with his best friend and they get involved in a wacky revenge plot.
It’s all done in ink and water color—so very much a traditional style.”
Nico Rodriguez, Cartoonist and Writer of West, Not South.
“Bedrock City Con is one of the best shows in Houston. This event has always been inviting and brings together audiences who want to jump into new stories. Their Artist Alley brings together tons of creators who are well into the industry as well as just getting started.”
Milton Lawson, Creator of the Hit Series, Orson Welles Warrior of the Worlds
