Mail Call from Writer Zack Kaplan
Comic book writer, Zack Kaplan, is one of those writers whose work consistently has a strong hook and scratches that sci-fi itch.
My first introduction to Zack’s writing was Beyond Real, a mind-bending story about a woman named June who ends up in a simulation. This first experience honestly had me invested, and each story released by Zack is often engaging and poses fun “what if” scenarios with a great creative team to bring the visuals to life.
And that’s part of what makes stories from Zack so exciting. He takes the “what if” and expands it to all sorts of genres—like Kill All Immortals, a story about an unkillable Viking family who become ultra rich. Or Dark Empty Void, a space drama centered around a person who comes from a discovered black hole.
We received a box of goodies from Zack that include several signed mini-posters, issue #1 of Volume 2 of Kill All Immortals—and an ashcan of his newest Dark Horse Comics title, Only the Savage are Left.
I personally love a good zombie/monster story, and after reading the ashcan, my reaction is this comic has the makings to be so f%#^ing good. Not only does Zack bring the team from the Kill All Immortals series (Stefano Raffaele, Thiago Rocha, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou), but Only the Savage are Left has that bloody energy that comes from great apocalypse stories.
Only the Savage are Left releases June 3, 2026 and I encourage readers to see if it should get added to their pull list.
